LATEST: Sir Paul McCartney has hit back at his estranged wife Heather Mills' accusations of violence and excessive substance abuse during their marriage, insisting he will "vigorously" defend his innocence. Mills filed court papers yesterday (18OCT06) alleging the former beatle had attacked her when she was pregnant and on another occasion stabbed her in the arm with a broken wine glass. MCCartney was also said to have verbally abused his wife, calling her an "ungrateful bitch", and objected vociferously when the amputee asked to purchase an antique bedpan so she didn't have to crawl to the toilet during the night. Among a series of alleged incidents pinpointed in the court papers, MCCartney is said to have become "very angry, yelled at her, grabbed her neck and started choking her" in August 2003 when she asked him if he had been smoking cannabis. In April 2006, MCCartney is accused of pouring a bottle of red wine over his wife's head before throwing the wine in his glass at her. He "then reached to grab the respondent's (Mills) wine glass and broke the bowl of the glass from the stem. However, MCCartney has broken his silence in order to defend himself against the shocking claims. A statement released by the star's lawyers reads: "Since the breakdown of his marriage Sir Paul MCCartney has maintained his silence in not commenting on the media stories believing that it was best for all concerned, particularly his children, for there to be some dignity in what is a private matter. "Our client would very much like to respond in public and in detail to the allegations made recently against him by his wife and published in the press, but he recognises, on advice, that the only correct forum for his response to the allegations made against him is in the current divorce proceedings. "Our client will be defending these allegations vigorously and appropriately." A close pal of MCCartney, Geoff Baker, speaks more plainly to British newspaper The Sun, "I would not believe her if she told me the sun set in the west, and I mean that. "I would not believe this fabricating t**t. She wants her name in the paper and is only saying it for attention." The couple, who have a two-year-old daughter, BEATRICE, separated acrimoniously earlier this year (06).

I have been reading every news event mailed to me. Even though no one really knows what goes on behind closed doors, I feel that if Paul had been a vicious, alcoholic drug user, it would have surfaced with his long marriage to Linda. We all have our own perceptions of Heather, but I can not see how anyone would exdpect monies gained without any effort on her part. I feel that due to her own father's concerns, she should just leave the relationship on good standings if only for Beatrice. I would feel somewhat embarrased by this behavior and if there were circumstances that must end in divorce , I would face it being a lady at all times. Allogations here and there ----just get divorced take what is only owned by each and be done with it. As far as Beatrice goes, joint custody,as there is mutual love for the child and her for them.

I think when they splited up he should just gave her a few million & tell her to hit the road. They could had remain friends & there child could had a great birthday with her .Cause its all about the child. And the books & media & shame of her parents she will face long after there gone thats. She there daughter is what there worry & concern should be about. The money shouldnt matter he has plenty & you cant take it with you. Paul will learn a hard lesson to never let it happen again and he could had a great relationship with both of them.Jackie.L. wilm nc

I dont blame Paul to keep it private whats in the home should stay in the home.I believe If there is abuse in any home a person shouldnt stay with the other person & get out. dont wait 6 months to years to do so.She just wanted a baby to remain tied to the money.Thats why she wanted the baby so soon to hurry and leave the marriage.Jackie.L. wilm nc
