Sir Paul Mccartney - Mccartney Wants India To Go Meat-free For A Day
Sir Paul McCartney is urging India's prime minister to declare a national day for vegetarianism in a bid to save animals.
The Beatles legend sent a letter to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Sing on Tuesday (04Jan11) to outline the benefits of a meat-free day.
MCCartney, a strict vegetarian and supporter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, insists giving up meat for 24 hours would protect the environment and benefit citizens' health.
The singer's message, obtained by the Associated Press, reads: "It would be a celebration of life."
It is estimated that 42 per cent of India's 1.2 billion population are vegetarian.
