Defiant country star Mindy McCready is challenging a judges ruling to return her son to his father, insisting she'll risk jail to keep the five-year-old safe.
The singer took Zander from her ex-boyfriend Bill MCKnight's Florida home on Tuesday (29Nov11), prompting his worried dad to file a missing persons report.
MCCready, who does not have custody of the boy, insisted the drama was overblown in a statement on Wednesday (30Nov11) and then revealed she was pregnant with twins.
A Florida judge demanded that the singer return her son to his dad by Thursday evening (01Dec11), but it appears MCCready is determined to test the law.
Explaining that her pregnancy is preventing her from taking Zander to Florida from her home in Tennessee, she says, "I'm a mom first. No matter what happens, I'm going to protect my kid. If I have to go to jail, so be it."
MCCready has told the Associated Press that she believes her son was abused while in her mother Gayle Inge's care. Inge was awarded guardianship of the boy in 2007 when her estranged daughter was sentenced to serve time behind bars on a probation violation. She denies the abuse allegations.
