Ewan Mcgregor - Mcgregor's Tv Appeal For Unicef
Scottish actor Ewan McGregor is fronting a new Unicef television appeal urging British fans to donate money to help children survive in drought-hit east Africa.
The Trainspotting star, who is a longtime U.K. ambassador for the organisation, tells of the harrowing conditions in the area, explaining in the emotional appeal that residents face famine as a result of the drought.
MCGregor is pleading for devotees to give money to the cause, as he reveals nearly $32 million (£20 million) is needed to bring lifesaving supplies to the region.
In the clip, he says, "In just one refugee camp in Kenya, there are nearly half a million people in urgent need of food, water and basic healthcare. The situation throughout the region is becoming more and more critical; the threat of starvation is very real... Five pounds does not go far here in the U.K. but for a child in east Africa it could be the difference between life and death."
The promo will air across Britain from Wednesday (13Jul11).
