Punk legend Malcolm McLaren has come clean about his decision to leave I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! just before filming started.

The former Sex Pistols manager pulled out of the seventh series of the show just hours before he was due to enter the jungle.

But he denied rumours that a fear of spiders and insects was behind his decision to drop out.

Talking to the Daily Star, he said: "It's a nonsense to say I quit over a spider.

"The reality is their jungle is a glorified film set. The whole show is a circus. I was shocked to hear I was never going to be in any danger."

He added: "Viewers need to wake up to the fact that the celebrities are just a motley crew in ITV's horror movie and, basically, I'm no longer interested in the script. I understand its popularity and all about the pantomime torture camp. I had every intention to appear on the show."

Though his former charge John Lydon had appeared on the show, McLaren said he had never seen the ITV1 programme.

But he said he's sure the winner of the seventh series has already been picked by producers.

"I think they fix it and they know exactly who is going to win. It's all set up. They know who's gonna win and who's gonna lose," McLaren claimed.

"In my opinion, it's totally and utterly fixed. This is not a reality show, it's a fake one."

Former Hollyoaks actress Gemma Atkinson and ex-5ive member Jason 'J' Brown have been pinpointed as favourites to win this year's series.
