Meek Mill - Meek Mill Weighs In On Rick Ross Lyrics Controversy
Ross sparked anger last month (Mar13) with his lyrics in rapper Rocko's song which appeared to condone rape as he referenced spiking a woman's drink and engaging in sexual activity without her knowledge.
Women's rights activists were enraged by the track and even called for the hip-hop star to be dropped from his sponsorship deal with sports giant Reebok.
Ross later issued an apology but Meek Mill is convinced the lyrics should not be taken so seriously as rappers have spoken about murder and rape in their tracks in the past.
He tells Washington, D.C. radio station 93.9 Wkys, "I don't even care about nobody (sic) criticising no (sic) lyrics. People rap about killing stuff all day. (In his song What's Beef?) Biggie (rapper Notorious B.I.G.) said, 'Rape your kid, throw her over the bridge' back then, it was nothing, it was just hip-hop...
"Rap's always been talking about killing, drugs, all types of stuff. So you can't just criticise no one thing nobody (sic) say. It's imaginary visual. If a writer write (sic) about somebody getting raped in a movie, (does) that mean he (is) a rapist or he want girls to get raped? No, he just wrote about that in a movie."
