Former Spice Girls singer Melanie Chisholm has landed a role in the stage production of Jesus Christ Superstar after striking up a friendship with Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber while working on a new TV show.
Chisholm and singer Jason Donovan have teamed up with Webber on a forthcoming U.K. TV talent show to find a new actor to play Jesus in the reboot of his hit 1970s stage spectacular.
However, Chisholm hasn't just offered music advice to the theatre impresario - she will also now star in the play as Mary Magdalene during its run across the U.K. and Ireland in September and October (12)
She says, "I have been lucky enough to perform at arenas across the globe and to star in London's West End but taking on the role of Mary Magdalene in the incredible Jesus Christ Superstar has to be one my most exciting challenges to date."
The former Spice Girls star has previous stage experience - she was nominated for an Olivier award for her portrayal of Mrs Johnstone in Blood Brothers.
