An apartment block in New York where actress Meryl Streep has a home was damaged during superstorm Sandy last month (Oct12), according to a U.S. report.

The hurricane wreaked havoc across America's East Coast when it hit, with the homes of stars including lingerie model Behati Prinsloo and rocker Jerry Gaskill devastated by the storm.

Now editors at the New York Daily News report Streep has been left "displaced" after the Manhattan building where she owns an apartment was flooded.

An insider tells the publication that The Iron Lady star may not be able to return to the property for "four months" and possibly "even longer" as the clean-up continues.

Streep, who is currently based in Los Angeles and Oklahoma to film new movie August: Osage County, is said to be "looking around" for a temporary home.
