Metallica wowed heavy rock fans at the Download Festival in England on Saturday night (09Jun12) by performing their landmark Black album in reverse.
James Hetfield and his bandmates took fans back to 1991 during their headlining slot on the event's second night.
The set lasted almost two hours as the band sailed past their stage curfew and extended the festival by 40 minutes.
Other highlights on Saturday included sets from Tenacious D, Black Veil Brides, Biffy Clyro and Slipknot's Corey Taylor, who performed solo and acoustic.
After his set, the often-masked rocker was presented with the award for Best Performance at Download over the past 10 years by organiser Andy Copping.
Taylor also appeared onstage with Steel Panther - both pulled in huge crowds to the main stage, with Corey Taylor singing a track with the latter.
Sunday's (10Jun12) Download Festival will feature reunited Black Sabbath's first official 2012 comeback show.
