Michael Jackson - Michael Jackson Self-injection 'Extremely Unlikely'

An expert on anesthetic Propofol says it is "extremely unlikely" Michael Jackson would have caused his own death by swallowing the drug.

Anesthesiologist Steven Shafer took to the stand today (20.10.11) in the case against the late 'Thriller' hitmaker's personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray, who has been charged with involuntary manslaughter of the pop star after he was accused of giving him an overdose of Propofol while trying to help him sleep.

Coroner's officials have determined the singer died from acute Propofol intoxication and also noted there was anti-anxiety drug lorazepam in Michael's system in June 2009.

Shafer - who is expected to be the prosecution's last witness - told jurors that the drug cannot enter the bloodstream in a sizeable quantity if it is swallowed and said based on Murray's timeline of events, where he says he was away from the pop star for just two minutes, there would not have been sufficient time for Michael to inject himself.

He explained: "The possibility of a direct self-injection seems extremely unlikely."

Shafer reminded the jury that injecting Propofol is a complicated process and showed them various formulas and Diagrams on a large screen.

He said the defence's argument that Michael gave himself the powerful anesthetic was also unlikely because he would've been groggy from other drugs administered throughout the night.

He explained: "He can't give himself an injection if he's asleep.

"People don't just wake up from anesthesia hell bent to pick up a syringe and pump it into the IV. It's a crazy scenario."

Shafer said it was more likely that Murray gave the singer a higher dose of Propofol than he told police and he also explained the defence's own testing showed Michael hadn't swallowed any lorazepam pills in the four hours before his death.

Murray's attorneys have previously argued Michael gave himself extra doses of Propofol and lorazepam without the doctor knowing - but the anesthesiologist said those doses would've amounted to just 10 per cent of the drug found in his body at the autopsy based on the timings Murray has given.

He said: "It's only 10 percent of what was measured, so this did not happen.

Prosecutor David Walgren asked Shafer: "The blood levels proved that there is more than four milligrams of lorazepam administered to Michael Jackson?"

And Shafer replied: "Absolutely."

Murray - who denies involuntary manslaughter - could face four years in prison if convicted.

The prosecution is expected to rest later today, with the defence set to call witnesses tomorrow (21.10.11).

here s a theary for you to muddle over:overweight, unattractive, incompetent dr jumps at the chance at mj, thinking he will be able to cajole women into flagrante delicto with him by his using is "status" as as mj's "personal physician" to pick up women who would not have looked at him twice. seven kids, 6 out of wedlock, in need of funds, incompotent dr, decides if he keeps mj drugged up,just enough to welch off mj for $$$$. the (dr) thought he could get away with murder with the knowledge of how much mj loved children and particularly their welfare, dr once again played on mj's sympathy to the tune of $160,000.00 a month and what ever other cash he could spirit away from my for his (dr) kids!!!!the fraking iv was in mj's leg for crying out loud!!! what dr gives an iv in the leg? one who doesnt want anyone to see the signs of his crimes!!!!in addition, the pharmacy should be held accountable for selling the dr the drugs without checking to see if they were in fact being sent to a medical clinic, or even questioning the quantity the dr was ordering, it is the responsibility of the drug dispencing agency to verify the facts and question where the meds were being sent in such a quantity!loreazapam is ativan. you can take a hanful of them without loosing your life.now dr says mj bullied him into administering the meds. exactly who is the dr here??? surely, not trusting mj who loved his children, his family, about to embark of a world tour to benefit charities for children. mj loved life too much to have done anything harmful to himself, especially, knowing how hurt his family would be, as well as being determined to heal the children with the funds from his performances.enter dr death seeing a great opportunity to tap into a wealth he did not deserve.mj didnt write the rx's nor order same. all the meds in question need a written prescription. ps it is illegal to ship controlled substances across state lines!! whoops!!! looks like dr death had only ONE thing in mind HIMSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
