Michael Lohan has slammed his ex-wife Dina as "uncaring" and "unmotherly" for restricting his access to their daughter Lindsay.

The troubled 'Machete' actress is currently receiving treatment at the Betty Ford rehab Clinic, in California, after failing two drug tests in September but her father thinks her troubles can only be properly solved by family therapy.

He said: "I keep stressing family therapy because all of the problems occurred as a result of my divorce with Dina. She needs to resolve this. While we were at Cirque Lodge and Lindsay and I had family therapy it was wonderful. They asked Dina to come and she wouldn't, I guess she has a problem just taking responsibility. I don't like saying that but it's cleansing to be able to say, 'I did this and I did that,' and be responsible."

He added: "For Dina to try to keep me out shows she's not interested in Lindsay getting better. She's not going to get better until she gets family therapy."

Michael is currently seeking conservatorship of his 24-year-old daughter and claims he was forced to, in order to protect her from Dina.

He told website X17online: "I never wanted to file for a conservatorship. I never had any intention of doing so. I want to stop other people from doing it - mainly Dina and Lou Taylor, who structured Britney Spears' conservatorship. If Lou Taylor and Dina, or Lou alone sits down with me and says, 'Look, we'll work it so you get family therapy with Lindsay, we're not seeking conservatorship,' I'm fine. You won't hear a damn thing from me ever again about Lindsay's personal being or her career or anything."

Michael believes Lindsay's friends are responsible for her current troubles and insists Dina should have stopped her from seeing them.

He explained: "They have to go out they have to live their lives. But that's their lifestyle, that's what they get around Lindsay. They encouraged her to go out, they enabled her. Things have to be straightened out. Dina has to do that."

Lindsay's two failed two drugs came after stints in prison and rehab - where she was sent after violating the terms of her probation for a 2007 driving under the influence (DUI) charge.

She is due back in court for a probation hearing on October 22.
