Michelle Williams' daughter wanted to call their new dog a "stripper name".

The actress and six-year-old Matilda - her child with the late Heath Ledger - recently got a new puppy and Michelle was a little stunned by the suggestions of names the youngster was coming up with.

She said: "Her first ideas were...they sounded like stripper names! She wanted something like, Crystal, Gem or Diamond."

"I was the controlling mom...I was like, 'We can't have a dog named that! But then I was like, 'You know what? Let her have it.' "

However, fortunately for Michelle, Matilda soon changed her mind and decided on the moniker of Lucky.

The actress added to TV talk show host Ellen Degeneres: "Which made me feel very lucky!"

As well as welcoming a new addition to her family, Michelle has also been busy with her career and is playing the iconic Marilyn Monroe in new movie 'My Week with Marilyn'.

However, she admitted she was wary of taking on the part because the late actress was such a legend.

She said: "I spent the next six months trying to talk myself out of accepting the part because it was just so daunting. I was never really a very good student. I didn't go to school for a terribly long time. I think I'm making up for it now. I worked so hard. I read all the books. I watched the movies. I was obsessed with her. I woke up with her every morning and I went to bed with her every night, in a way."
