Mick Jagger has been applauded by top Hindus for tackling ancient Sanskrit in new song Satyameva Jayate.
The track will reportedly be the second single released by new supergroup, SuperHeavy, which features the Rolling Stones frontman, Dave Stewart, Oscar winner A.R. Rahman and Joss Stone.
Indian musician Rahman composed the track and Jagger was happy to sing it in Sanskrit, thrilling U.S. Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, the president of the Universal Society of Hinduism.
He tells WENN, "We salute Mick Jagger and his group for experimenting in Sanskrit and we urge other popular singers and groups to also bring the ancient language to a new generation.
"Sanskrit offers a storehouse of wisdom which needs to be explored further by popular culture in order to bring spirituality into the life of consumerist society, which is full of distractions."
The song title translates as 'truth alone triumphs' and is part of a mantra from ancient Hindu scripture Mundaka Upanishad. Sanskrit is considered a sacred language in Hinduism and root language of Indo-European languages.
