The Military Wives Choir have been favoured as being this year's UK Christmas number one for a few days now, with X Factor winners Little Mix's initial elation at reaching the top spot fading as it soon emerged they were being outsold six-to-one by the servicemen's wives. However the choir collective look to surprise even those who'd predicted them to go in at number one as the Chart Company have predicted their track could become the fastest selling single in the UK for six years.
The Military Wives features some 100 wives of army men who've been serving the UK abroad, and Reuters reports that their single 'Wherever You Are' has sold a whopping 242,000 copies in its first two days of release, more than six times its nearest rival. X Factor stars Little Mix took the top spot last weekend but with only 210,000 copies sold, which would suggest that they've no chance of topping the wives' effort.
The whole thing is fronted by Gareth Malone who presented the reality TV show that brought the group together, and they're now 1/8 at William Hill and 2/7 with Ladbrokes to take the top spot.
