Iconic entertainer Liza Minnelli feels "sad" for Lindsay Lohan as she battles her addictions - because she understands what it's like to succumb to substance abuse.
The Cabaret legend endured a lengthy battle with drugs which saw her enter rehab on numerous occasions before finally beating her demons.
Lohan has been in and out of jail and rehab this year (10) and is currently receiving treatment at the Betty Ford clinic in California, and Minnelli admits she can empathise with the Mean Girls star as she spent several weeks at the same centre in 1984.
She tells U.S. newsman Larry King, "I feel sad. And I feel understanding. And I feel that there's another road to take. It doesn't have to be the way it is. I can't (regret it). I did it. And that's accepting. And accepting is probably the biggest part of the game."
And Minnelli insists she didn't find it too difficult to shake off her drug addiction. When King asked her, "Was it hard to get rid of it?", she replied, "Yeah, but not really hard. Not when you have support and your friends in AA (Alcoholics Anonymous), and you're doing stuff you love. And that's what I'm doing."
