Actress Minnie Driver is convinced she dodged serious injury when she lost out on playing the part of Arachne in Broadway musical SPIDER-MAN: Turn Off The Dark because the show opened for previews with a string of mishaps.

Safety issues brought the stage spectacular, which features music by U2 stars Bono and The Edge, to a halt, and although it re-opened with major changes, and the Good Will Hunting star is glad she wasn't a part of the production when it was hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons in 2010 and 2011.

Driver explains, "I went down the road quite far with the Spider-Man production, which I'm actually very glad didn't end up panning out. I was involved with it when it was U2 and (director/creator) Julie Taymor, and it was still all happening together. It was for the role of the spider Arachne, which was a really big role with really amazing songs. I think they cut that part back a lot.

"I haven't seen the show but just given all the physical injuries, I'm glad I wasn't part of it."

But the experience hasn't killed the actress' Broadway dreams. She tells BlogTalkRadio.com, "I'm in awe of Broadway singers. I'd love to make a proper musical, a real old-style musical like Chicago. I'd love to make a movie musical like that too."
