Singer Kylie Minogue has an extra-special reason to celebrate the New Year (11) - she is five years in remission for cancer.
The Australian pop star was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and underwent surgery and chemotherapy to beat the disease.
She was given the all-clear the following year (06) and now she has rung in 2011, Minogue is ecstatic she has reached her five-year cancer-free goal.
In an emotional TV interview with Spanish show El Hormiguero, she recalls the "horribly, horribly low moments" of her treatment but praises the "support from around the world" she received, adding: "You need to hand yourself over to not only the medical people, who do a fine job, but to all the people who want to take care of you. Sometimes you don't want to be mollycoddled. But what I found helpful is you have to let them help you.
"It's baby, baby steps. I think it's too simple to say 'Just stay strong', because you can't be strong all the time. You have those moments when you're down and so horribly, horribly low, but you still come up again, so believe in that."
