Miss Saigon To Celebrate 25th Anniversary With West End Return

Hit musical Miss Saigon is heading back to the West End stage in celebration of the show's 25th anniversary.

The stage show, an epic love story set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War and based on Giacomo Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly, originally opened in London in 1989, and closed after 4,000 performances 10 years later (99).

Now theatre impresario Sir Cameron MACkintosh is prepping a new production to celebrate Miss Saigon's milestone.

He says, "The new production has taken a more gritty and realistic approach to the design than the operatic original but still delivers the power and epic sweep of (Alain) Boublil and (Claude-Michel) Schonberg's great score."

Miss Saigon is scheduled to open at the Prince Edward Theatre in the British capital next May (14).
