Australian music mogul Molly Meldrum has opened up about a devastating fall at his home last year (11), admitting his "life changed forever" following the accident which left him in a coma.
The music industry veteran was hospitalised in December (11) after taking a tumble while putting up Christmas decorations and he subsequently underwent numerous operations to treat injuries including a fractured skull, a broken collar bone and a punctured lung.
Meldrum returned home last month (Mar12) and has been undergoing treatment in a rehabilitation centre.
He's now penned an open letter to the Herald Sun, insisting he feels lucky to be alive after the accident.
The star explains, "My life changed forever when I fell off the roof on December 15 last year. I can't say my life flashed before my eyes, but I have had plenty of time to reflect in the past few weeks, and I realise just how lucky I am."
Meldrum also revealed Sir Elton John called to wish him well during his recovery, and he's thanked fans for their ongoing support.
He adds, "I wish I could reply to all the cards and messages, but it's impossible - it would take all year and I'd never get my book finished!"
