Former British royal Sarah Ferguson has been charged with illegally filming children during a 2008 trip to a Turkish orphanage.
The Duchess of York went undercover to examine orphanage conditions for a British TV programme and she reportedly captured images of children, who appeared to be tied to their beds in one facility just outside the capital of Ankara.
Officials have since taken legal action against Ferguson and in court on Thursday (12Jan12) she was accused in absentia of going "against the law in acquiring footage and violating privacy" of five children.
She faces up to 22 years behind bars if convicted. No trial date has been set.
