Morrison Facing Assault Charge After Arrest
British R&B singer Mark Morrison has been arrested for assault following an altercation in west London.
The star, who shot to fame in 1996 with hit song Return of the MACk, was taken into police custody on Wednesday night (10Jun09) after cops were called to investigate a disturbance between two men at a house in the capital.
Morrison was subsequently released and is due to appear in court to answer the charge next month (Jul09).
A statement from Scotland Yard police reads, "A 37-year-old male was arrested for common assault on a 36-year-old male. The suspect was taken to Chelsea police station. He was subsequently bailed to a date in July (sic) pending further enquires."
Further details about the incident were unavailable as WENN went to press.
It is not the first time Morrison has been in trouble with police: in 1997, he spent three months in jail after attempting to board a plane with a stun gun and was banned from driving after being caught behind the wheel of a car with only a learner's permit to his name.
He served a second stint behind bars in 1998 after he was found to have ignored a community service sentence handed down to him in 1995 for another incident.
Morrison's latest arrest comes as the singer prepares to relaunch his stalled career. He is due to release his new album, I Am What I Am, in September (09).
