Morrissey, Amy Winehouse, Jimi Hendrix, Liam Gallagher and John Lennon have been shortlisted for British rock bible NME's Ultimate Icon Award.
Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner, David Bowie and Kurt Cobain also make the list to find the biggest star of the last 60 years.
The publication started off with 60 artists in a bid to celebrate its 60th birthday.
The current shortlist of eight will be narrowed down to four in the coming weeks.
Ironically, Morrissey is currently locked in a bitter legal dispute with the British magazine, alleging comments he made in a 2007 interview were "altered" to make him appear racist. The lawsuit is due to go to court in London in July (12).
