Folk stars Mumford & Sons and actress Carey Mulligan caused a stir with a surprise appearance at a pensioners' private party - they entertained surprised senior citizens before sweeping the floors and washing dishes.
Mulligan joined her singer husband Marcus Mumford and his band during their visit to the over-65s Friday Friends lunch club ahead of a concert in Huddersfield, England on Saturday (16Jul12).
Marcus' brother James set up the unsusual gig, during which the group performed their song Sisters and a rendition of Amazing Grace, before teaming up with Mulligan to clean up.
Marcus says, "It was wonderful. They gave us a real, warm welcome."
The kind-hearted rockers also invited members of the social club to their gig in Greenhead Park the following evening.
Joann Wareham, who runs the lunch club, adds, "I was overwhelmed. It was such a nice gesture. I can't sing their praises enough. Everyone was on their feet, clapping and cheering. They loved it. I couldn't believe it when they offered to clear up. They weren't afraid of hard work, they rolled up their sleeves and helped tidy everything away, sweeping the floors and helping with the washing-up. I have to admit, after they'd left it felt a bit bizarre. I was thinking, 'Did that really happen?'"
