Murdoch's News International Gives Up "International" Handle
News International, the corporate umbrella for News Corp's London newspapers, and the focus of investigations into telephone hacking by two of them, the now-defunct News of the World and the Sun, will be given a new name when News Corp is split into two companies on Friday: News U.K. It will also become part of the new News Corp, the newspaper and publishing company that is being carved away from Rupert Murdoch's entertainment assets, which will be assembled under the brand 21st Century Fox. In addition, the name of the company's original News Ltd unit in Australia is being changed to News Corp Australia. In its announcement, News Corp appeared to allude to the hacking scandal when it referred to fundamental changes of governance and personnel that have taken place to address the problems of the recent past.
