Muse have cancelled several dates on the US tour due to members of the band's crew falling sick with serious food poisoning.

My Chemical Romance, who are touring with the UK stadium rockers, were also affected when members of the US band and its crew became violently ill.

The tour was brought to an abrupt halt after a show at William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Some members of the crew were "scattered" in hospitals between State College in Pennsylvania and Columbus Ohio, according to the band.

Tonight's show, due to take place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has been cancelled and the band hopes that after this date people may have fully recovered.

"Muse would like their fans to know that they hope to resume the tour as soon as possible," a band statement read.

Tickets to the band's cancelled shows will be refunded and both bands are disappointed they cannot play.

Muse have been touring extensively since the release of their fourth album, Black Holes and Revelations, last summer.

The band will play a huge show at Madison Square Garden in New York on August 6th, showing the extent of their popularity in the US.

Muse gained cult status with their first album, Showbiz, before hitting The Rock mainstream with their second album Origin of Symmetry and their third record Absolution.
