Musicians Join Aids Fight
A host of ethically-conscious musicians including Annie Lennox and Razorlight will use their talents to raise money for victims of Aids this weekend (01Dec07). Acts including Peter Gabriel, Corinne Bailey Rae and British rockers Razorlight will kick off the proceedings by performing for the Nelson Mandela Aids benefit concert on Saturday (01Dec07). More than 30 local and international artists will take to the stage at the charity event in Johannesburg as part of World Aids Day, which uses Mandela's prison number, 46664, as part of its marketing. U.S. rockers The Killers are also backing the cause by releasing a Christmas single in aid of the campaign this weekend (01Dec07). All the proceeds of Don't Shoot Me Santa will be invested in African Aids programmes. Rockers Queen announced last week (ends30Nov07) they would do the same by releasing their new single, Say It's Not True, on World Aids Day (01Dec07).
