My Chemical Romance shocked fans by revealing on a blog post they have split up.

After landing a UK number one with their single 'Welcome to the Black Parade', releasing four studio albums and being nominated for a Grammy award, the band has announced their farewells.

My Chemical Romance posted on their website: ''Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We've gotten to go places we never knew we would. We've been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We've shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure.''

Rumours circulated at the weekend following the sad news; including some blaming bassist Mikey Way for the band's split.

Mikey Way took to Twitter to address the rumours: ''For the record, my relationship has absolutely nothing to do with what just happened. They are completely separate.''

The US rock band has caused uproar among fans across the globe, which has led to a petition calling on the band to do a final world tour.

Campaign organiser, Cameron Lee wrote: ''They ended so abruptly without saying goodbye to their fans properly, and the MCRmy is upset. They need to do it correctly if they're going to do it at all.''

The petition on change.org has raised over 6,000 signatures and according to NME, is growing at the rate of two fans every one second.
