Natalia Vodianova was honoured by Diane Von Furstenberg last night (07.03.13).

The Russian model was one of five inspirational women given accolades at the annual DVF Awards in New York City, where she received the Inspiration Award for her work as founder of the Naked Heart Foundation charity, which provides help for Russian children in need.

Andeisha Farid, founder of Afghan Child Education and Caring Organisation, and Sunitha Krishnan of Prajwala - a group which rescues women and children from brothels - were awarded the Vital Voices Global Partnership prizes in recognition for their efforts.

Tammy Tibbetts received the People's Choice trophy for her girls' education charity First after being chosen by the public from a shortlist of nominees committed to supporting women's causes.

Lastly, the Lifetime Leadership Award was handed to US TV presenter Robin Roberts, who overcame breast cancer and a rare blood disorder called myelodysplastic syndrome with ''extraordinary grace and courage''.

Speaking about the award, Natalie previously said: ''Diane is like a mother to me, so I do believe she is a little biased.

''With that said, she is also the one person who knows the most, outside of the Naked Heart Foundation team, how passionate I am about my cause, and how hard I work to realise it.''
