Nbc Owns Half Of Top-ten Rated Shows

Time was when NBC's Thursday lineup alone would provide five contenders or more for Nielsen's list of the top ten television shows of the week. These days, however, it is extraordinary when any five NBC shows land in the top-ten. But that's what happened last week. Of course three shows were titled America's Got Talent , and two were titled The Voice . But, hey, whatever works, right? (No doubt nobody was complaining when ABC's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire was dominating the ratings with multiple episodes while the rest of the network's shows were tanking.) The only other non-rerun in the top-ten list was ABC's The Bachelorette , which tied for ninth place. (Worth noting is the fact that Spanish-language Univision beat out the major broadcast networks on Saturday with its coverage of soccer's Concacaf Gold Cup, which drew 7.98 million viewers, up 48 percent from the 5.38 million who tuned in for the contest in 2009.) Ratings were down precipitously among the broadcast networks' nightly newscasts. NBC Nightly News with Bryan Williams once again led the way 5.98 million viewers, followed by ABC World News with Diane Sawyer with 5.5 million. The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley attracted just 4.2 million viewers. Overall, CBS continued to lead among total adults with a 3.8 rating and a 7 share, nudging out NBC with a 3.7/7. ABC placed third with a 2.9/5, while Fox trailed with a 2.3/4.

The top ten shows of the week according to Nielsen Research 1. America's Got Talent (Wednesday), NBC, 7.5/12; 2. America's Got Talent (Tuesday), NBC, 7.1/12; 3. The Voice, NBC, 6.8/11; 4. NCIS, CBS, 6.2/11; 5. America's Got Talent (Wednesday Special), NBC, 6.1/10; 6. The Voice (Results), NBC, 6/10; 7. NCIS Los Angeles, CBS, 5.9/9; 8. The Mentalist, CBS, 5.2/9; 9. The Bachelorette , ABC, 5.1/8; 9. CSI Crime Scene Investigation, CBS, 5.1/8.
