Nbc Stations To Get Help From News Website

ProPublica, the investigative website that last year won the first Pulitzer Prize awarded to an online news organization, has landed a new outlet for its content the NBC Owned Television Stations. ProPublica, which is funded primarily by Herbert and Marion Sandler and the Knight Foundation, has previously partnered with other print and broadcast groups, but the arrangement with the NBC stations would appear to expand its parameters. (The 10 NBC-owned stations reach 34 percent of total U.S. viewers.) ProPublica employs 32 journalists, several of them Pulitzer winners. It reportedly will provide its content without charge to the NBC stations, in exchange simply for a broader audience. In a statement, Valari Staab, president of the NBC Owned Television Stations, also announced agreements with local non-profit news organizations in Chicago ( The Chicago Reporter ), Philadelphia (public broadcaster WHYY), and Los Angeles (public broadcaster KPCC) to augment coverage in those markets. Those partnerships, Staab said, will give the stations "even more resources to enterprise stories that are important to our viewers in the communities we serve and helping us offer even more diverse programming and viewpoints. They will also offer an even larger platform for these nonprofit news organizations to have their independent and diverse voices heard."
