CBS's NCIS and its companion spin-off NCIS Los Angeles were the only scripted repeats to land in Nielsen's top ten last week -- a week that saw struggling NBC place four programs in that list -- two editions of America's Got Talent, preseason coverage of the Chargers-Cowboys game on Sunday Night Football, and the pre-kick off commentary leading into The Game. Nevertheless, even with all its reruns, CBS managed to draw the most viewers, averaging 6.0 million (3.8 rating and a 7 share) in primetime. Two episodes of its hit summer reality series Big Brother landed in the top ten and a third placed twelfth. NBC had to Settle for second place with 5.5 million viewers (3.4/6). Fox, helped by a Thursday-night football telecast, moved out of the cellar as it averaged 4.4 million viewers (2.8/5) and edged out ABC with 4.4 million (2.7/5). Among the evening newscasts, the race was tighter than usual as NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams stayed in the lead with 7.6 million. But ABC World News with Diane Sawyer closed in with 7.3 million viewers. CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley remained far behind with 5.6 million viewers.

The top ten shows of the week according to Nielsen Research 1. NFL Pre-Season Football, NBC, 6.4/11; 2. America's Got Talent (Tuesday), NBC, 6.0/10; 3. NCIS, CBS, 5.7/10; 4. America's Got Talent (Wednesday), NBC, 5.6/9; 5. NFL on Fox Pre-Season, Fox, 5.3/9; 6. 60 Minutes, CBS, 5.0/9; 6. NCIS Los Angeles, CBS, 5.0/8; 8. Big Brother 13 (Wednesday), CBS, 4.8/8; 9. Big Brother 13 (Sunday) , CBS, 4.7/8; 9. NFL Pre-Season Pre-Kickoff, NBC, 4.7/9.
