Ncis, American Idol Share Ratings Honors

CBS's long-running NCIS flew way above every other show on broadcast TV in the Nielsen ratings last week with 19.79 million viewers, but it ended up in a tie for second place (with ABC's Dancing with the Stars) among viewers in the key 18-49 age group. The winner among younger viewers remained Wednesday's American Idol, even with its total numbers sharply diminished from what they were in previous seasons. Indeed, the Wednesday edition of Fox's talent contest came in fourth among total adults with 12.94 million viewers, while Thursday's installment drew 11.93 million. (Those figures were eclipsed this week by the debut of NBC's The Voice, which drew 13.43 million viewers in its season debut and drew a 4.7 rating among the 18-49 set versus a 3.6 last week for Idol.) Among the evening newscasts last week, the effects of Daylight Saving Time was still evident as NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams again took first place with 8.37 million viewers. However, ABC World News with Diane Sawyer was hot on its heels with 7.85 million viewers, while the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley placed third with 6.62 million. Overall, CBS claimed the title for the most-watched broadcast network last week among total adults and the 18-49 demo. It scored an average 5.3 household rating and a 9 share. ABC came in second with a 4.8/8. Fox placed third with a 3.6/6, while NBC trailed with a 2.7/4.
