Neil Diamond - Neil Diamond Pledges Sweet Caroline Royalties To Bombing Victims
Veteran singer Neil Diamond has promised to donate the proceeds from his hit Sweet Caroline to help victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.
The crooner's classic track has been adopted as an anthem for the Massachusetts city's baseball team, the Boston Red Sox, and Diamond made a surprise appearance at their Fenway Park stadium on Saturday (20Apr13) to perform Sweet Caroline in person at the team's first home game since the attacks on 15 April (13).
Diamond has now gone a step further by pledging to donate money from recent sales of the 1969 song to the One Fund, a charity set up to help victims of the blasts, which killed three people and injured a further 175.
Sales of the track have risen by a massive 597 per cent over the last week, according to statistics company Nielsen SoundScan, and when Diamond saw the news on Twitter.com, he re-posted the firm's message about Sweet Caroline and added, "Donating these royalties to One Fund!"
