Neil Patrick Harris - Neil Patrick Harris Announces Engagement To David Burtka
Neil Patrick Harris celebrated the passing of the Marriage Equality Bill by the New York State Senate yesterday by immediately announcing his engagement to his long time partner and co-parent to his twins, David Burtka. Neil Patrick Harris told E! Online that the couple had actually been engaged for five years, and had been waiting for the passing of the bill: "David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago! We've been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date."
The passing of the bill created a Twitter storm, with gay and straight celebrities alike praising the news as a monumental achievement. Ricky Martin tweeted: "Time to celebrate!!! Marriage Equality for NYers! Its about. love!" while Lady GaGa, who has recently used her profile to campaign for LGBT rights, said: "the revolution is ours to fight for love, justice+equality. Rejoice NY, and propose. We did it!!!" Singer and actress Mandy Moore commented: "MARRIAGE EQUALITY in NEW YORK! What a win and what a way to start the weekend!! California: time to follow suit." The Los Angeles Times reported that Harris had been vocal on Twitter in the days leading up to the passing of the bill, stating: "I'd sure love to get married. Please, NY Senate, vote in favor of marriage equality today. My family would really appreciate it." Harris has recently hosted both the Emmy and Tony award ceremonies, and his twins, Harper and Gideon, were born in October.
