The Circus, the fifth album by Take That, will have sold more than a million copies by the end of the day, according to the Official UK Charts Company.

The reunited boyband's latest effort - released on December 1st - had sold more than 990,000 copies by the end of Thursday, meaning it should easily pass the million mark on Friday December 19th.

Only one other album has reached that milestone faster in the UK - Oasis' Be Here Now took just 11 days in 1997.

Their previous album, Beautiful World, is the third fastest to sell a million, taking 27 days in 2006.

However, The Circus is not the biggest-selling album of the year, that honour going to Rockferry by Duffy.

The Welsh songstress has sold 1.5 million copies of her debut since March.

"Take That will have to go some to overtake Rockferry and establish The Circus as the biggest-selling album of 2008, but it is not impossible," said the Official Charts Company's Martin Talbot.

Take That did manage to achieve the biggest first-day sales of the year, with 133,000 copies of The Circus sold on its first day on UK shelves.

The huge appeal of Gary Barlow and company also led to their smashing of Coldplay's record for the fastest-selling album of the year.

Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends was the previous record holder with 125,000 copies after its release in June.
