Wayne Newton's wife has filed court papers in a bid to keep her assets separate from those of her financially-troubled husband.
The veteran crooner is facing a string of money problems which worsened last month (Feb10) after he cancelled a series of lucrative shows in Las Vegas when his pregnant daughter Erin, 33, fell seriously ill.
She has since regained consciousness after slipping into a coma, but Newton's money problems have refused to go away.
Now the star's wife Kathleen MCCrone Newton has filed court documents to stake claim to items she keeps at Newton's Las Vegas estate - including art, jewellery and musical instruments - insisting the objects do not belong to her husband, according to TMZ.com.
The papers, filed at a Nevada court on Tuesday (02Mar10), reveal Kathleen is making a declaration of her property because her husband's former pilot, Monty Ward, is trying to collect a $500,000 (£312,500) court judgement against the singer - and debt collectors recently sent a removal truck to the couple's home in a bid to gather Newton's assets.
A judge ordered Newton to hand Ward more than $400,000 (£266,667) in back pay last year (09), and the amount has been accruing interest ever since.
The 67-year-old star also hit the headlines last month (Feb10) when he was accused of failing to pay almost $60,000 (£37,500) in storage fees to keep his private jet in a hanger at the Oakland County International Airport in Michigan for nearly three years.
