Nick Cannon has quit his New York morning radio show, claiming he could die if he carries on working so hard. Tweeting to his followers early on Friday (February 17, 2012), the presenter and comedian said doctors had found blood clots in his lungs, meaning he could no longer commit to his popular radio show.
Cannon, 31, told fans, "The Doctors found blood clots in my lungs and said if I don't slow down and stop working so hard then it's a wrap!". Medical staff also found an enlarged ventricle in Nick's heart. Due to the diagnosis, Cannon says he will now leave his job as host of the 'Rolling with Nick Cannon' show on 92.3 in New York. Strangely, he will continue his role on America's Got Talent, and released a statement saying, "Under doctor's orders, I have been asked to cut back on some of my professional commitments to allow my body to get the rest it needs to keep up with the demands of my multitasking schedule". Despite the clearly serious situation, Nick joked, "Even Superman has to sleep". It's not the first time the comedian has had to deal with a serious medical scare - back in January he was hospitalized with mild kidney failure. At the time, he told Vibe magazine how his wife Mariah Carey had found him in pain at their home, adding "Two days before New Year's, I started to feel this horrible pain in my back, they did some more tests ... and -- it took a day or two -- and they were like, 'We think it's a little more serious than a kidney infection. We're going to keep you in the hospital. You need to stay here". After test results came back, it was determined that Cannon was actually suffering from kidney failure, he said, "They came and told me that my kidneys aren't functioning. Not just one -- not the one that was in pain -- both of them weren't functioning right. My immune system started to attack my kidneys ... And my kidneys pretty much failed". Despite the most recent health-scare, it seems as though Cannon is reluctant to give up work completely, and says he will continue hosting his syndicated weekend show Cannon's Countdown at the weekend - he even hinted at more radio work, saying he, "looks forward to contributing to 92.3 Now whenever possible".
As well as a comedian and broadcaster, Cannon also has numerous film credits under his belt, including appearances in Drumline, Love Don't Cost a Thing and Roll Bounce. As a rapper, he released his self-titled debut album in 2003, which included the hit single 'Gigolo', with R Kelly. He married Mariah Carey in April 2008 and his decision to take some time off work may come as a welcome relief to the pop superstar. Carey gave birth to the couple's first children on their third wedding anniversary - welcoming fraternal twins Monroe (after Marilyn Monroe) and Moroccan (because Cannon proposed to Carey in their Moroccan-style room). Carey has rarely been seen in public since the birth, but recent reports have linked the singer to the judging panel of Simon Cowell's X Factor Usa. Cowell has since played down the reports, telling Extra, "The budget for the show is $100 million. That would never ever happen. It's absolute nonsense. No one is going to pay $100 million for someone".
