Nick Gordon is doing ''well'' on his rehab treatment programme.

The 25-year-old star checked himself into a facility after Dr. Phil McGraw staged an ''emotionally charged'' intervention in March on his programme 'The Dr. Phil Show'.

Nick's life had spiralled out of control after his girlfriend Bobbi Kristina Brown was hospitalised on January 31 and her father Bobby Brown prevented him from going to see Bobbi - who has been in a medically induced coma since being discovered unresponsive in a bath - but he is learning to deal with his issues in rehab.

A source told PEOPLE: ''Nick is responding well to rehab treatment with no relapses. The quiet time is good for him. He needed it ... Being in rehab these past few weeks is helping him work on himself and get to the core of his problems.''

It has been recommended that Nick stays in rehab for an extended time period so he can create a ''better life'' for himself on the outside world.

The source added: ''He should stay for a long time - as long as he will allow. The best thing for Nick is that he is out of the way, out of the limelight. This way he can continue the process to improve himself and move forward in a better life. It is a blessing that he is in rehab.''

Jack Walker Jr. - the partner of Nick's mother Michelle - recently admitted it had been tough to see Nick's downward spiral in the wake of Bobbi going into a coma.
