Keith Urban says Nicole Kidman is an ''extraordinary wife''.

The 'American Idol' judge - who has two daughters Sunday Rose, four, and Faith Margaret, two, - credits the actress for their ability to balance having successful careers with raising their children and praised her as an ''amazing mother''.

He said: ''I have an extraordinary team around me because it really does take a village. I'm certainly not doing everything on my own. I just have tremendous thanks for all the help I have to make all of this happen. And I have an extraordinary wife in Nic who's an amazing mother. She just does a beautiful job of helping keep it all in balance.''

The Australian singer also opened up his love of singing with Nicole, but insisted they will never record a duet.

The Oscar winning actress sang throughout the movie 'Moulin Rouge' and also scored a UK number one single with Robbie Williams with their version of 'Something Stupid' in 2001.

He said: ''I think the only one that you can find is on YouTube when we inducted sort of Simon Baker into the Good Day USA Hall of Fame. We put a little song together and we both sang that for him, but past that, no I think nothing professional. We just enjoy singing at home.''

'American Idol' airs exclusively on Channel 5*, 9pm Thursday and Fridays.
