Normalcy Returns To Tv As Sandy Departs

The broadcast and cable networks were expected to resume normal programming today (Wednesday), following the departure of Hurricane -- now Tropical Storm -- Sandy from the coastal areas of the East Coast. But the storm's effects linger on. Both NBC's Today show and ABC's Good Morning America as well as the syndicated Live with Kelly and Michael have scrubbed their planned Halloween features and said they may move them to later this week or next week. Late-night shows that had closed their doors to audiences during the storm, were expected to open them again. Nevertheless, some hard-hit areas may not be able to see those -- or any other -- shows. Cable operators in the Northeast said that they were working through the night to restore service that was interrupted because of power outages and flooding. Hardest hit was Cablevision Systems, which primarily serves lower Manhattan, which received the brunt of the storm's attack, issued a statement saying that its crews are in the field and are working around-the-clock to restore optimum TV, phone and Internet service, in close coordination with local utilities.
