Former 'Nsync singer Chris Kirkpatrick has got engaged.
The 41-year-old star surprised his girlfriend Karly Skladany with an impromptu proposal during a recent holiday in Italy and while he hadn't planned to pop the question to the brunette marketing representative, he insists the romantic moment was ''absolutely perfect''.
He said: ''We had a hotel room at the Isle of Capri, overlooking the Mediterranean. It was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. And it hit me: I wanted to propose to Karly. So I ran to a jewellery store, found the perfect ring and bought it.
''We were sitting on the balcony with a bottle of champagne and I put the ring in her glass. I know it sounds cheesy, but it was romantic. As soon as I asked her, she said, 'It's about time!' And we laughed. It was spur of the moment, but it was absolutely perfect.''
Shortly before proposing to Karly, Chris realised he hadn't asked her father's permission to get engaged to his 28-year-old daughter, so he frantically called her dad in the hope he would give his approval.
The singer explained: ''He didn't answer his phone, so I left him this message like, 'Um, this is Chris, and I just wanted to talk and ask a few questions.' I was nervous, which was funny. He called right back and, of course, he gave his blessing.''
Chris may have been inspired to pop the question to his bride-to-be after his former 'NSync bandmate Justin Timberlake married actress Jessica Biel in Italy on Friday (19.10.12), but Chris has played down speculation he wasn't invited to the couple's nuptials, despite being in the same country, insisting there are no hard feelings.
He added to PEOPLE: ''He didn't want the wedding to be an 'NSync reunion, and I totally understand that. I already had plans to be in Italy anyway. It was just a coincidence that I was there when Justin got married. There's really nothing negative about any of it.''
