Oasis Star Attacks Blair's Record

Noel Gallagher, who once famously chatted with the prime minister at No. 10, has branded Tony Blair as a "president" and said that there is little reason for the public to vote in elections.

The Oasis star was one of many musicians attending a drinks party at the prime minister's London residence in 1997 at the height of the so-called 'Cool Britannia' era.

But speaking on the BBC's Newsnight programme Gallagher said that he had become increasingly disillusioned since Labour's famous landslide victory nearly a decade ago.

"We thought it was going to be John F Kennedy and for a year or two it was," he said.

"Unfortunately for this Labour government, they are going to be saddled with the Iraq war and nobody can get around that."

Fellow politicians David Cameron and Gordon Brown also came under attack during the interview.

"They're all cut from the cloth and it annoys me that the biggest political icon from the last 30 years has been Margaret ThatCher, someone who tried to desTroy the working class... it freaks me out you know," he said.

"So I don't really think there's anything left to vote for. That's why people don't vote [and] why people would rather vote for celebrity talent shows than would vote for politics."

The interview coincided with Oasis being honoured for their outstanding contribution to music at last night's Brit Awards.
