President Obama has nominated a former lobbyist for the cable and wireless industries to become the next head of the Federal Communications Commission, filling the post currently held by Julius Genachowski, who has resigned. Some consumer groups reacted negatively to the appointment of Tom Wheeler to the post. On paper, Tom Wheeler does not appear to be that person, having headed not one but two major trade associations.
