O'donnell: 'Winfrey Should Have Controlled Cruise'
Comedienne ROSIE O'DONNELL has blasted talk show host Oprah Winfrey for failing to control Tom Cruise during his infamous couch-jumping escapades on her program last year (MAY05). Cruise had only been dating fiancee Katie Holmes for five weeks when he leaped all over Winfrey's furniture, pummelled the floor with his fists and shouted, "I'm in love, I'm in love." Longtime Cruise fan O'Donnell was stunned by the public and media backlash against his behaviour last year, and believes Winfrey should have stepped in to curtail the actor's enthusiasm on her talk show. A League of Their Own star O'Donnell tells Newsweek magazine, "I saw him doing the couch jumping. "I wasn't mad at him. I was mad at Oprah. Oprah, couldn't you have said, 'Tommy, come here! Don't jump.'" O'Donnell insists she would have retaped the segment with a calmer Cruise had he done the same thing on her former talk show THE ROSIE O'DONNELL SHOW, which ended in 2002. O'Donnell insists she loves Cruise, declaring, "For me, to love someone is not to get rid of them when they do something you don't think is appropriate. I love him, and love is eternal."
