Ohio Players Call On Famous Fans To Revamp Their Hits For Album
Soul veterans THE OHIO PLAYERS are hoping to assemble superfans like Stevie Wonder, Prince and Snoop Dogg for a new album of revamped hits.
The heavily-sampled Love Rollercoaster hitmakers have just released their first single in 13 years via iTunes and now they're planning a major career compilation featuring their most famous followers.
Drummer James 'Diamond' Williams, who has been a Player since 1972, tells WENN, "There's plans and we will be working on assembling that. It's a bubbling situation that just might come about.
"Snoop sampled Little Lady Maria and did a wonderful song and the Red Hot Chili Peppers did a great job of covering Love Rollercoaster, so they would have to be there, and Prince has been playing Rollercoaster on tour. And we'd love for Stevie Wonder to do something - he gave us the title for our hit Fire.
"We were working on it in the studio next to Stevie and when he first heard the instrumental version with the rhythm, he said, 'That track's on fire!'"
Currently touring as a 10-piece band, The Ohio Players will debut their new track, This is Your Night, onstage at the Sunset Junction festival in Los Angeles on Saturday night (21Aug10).
