Oprah Winfrey, the 'Queen of Daytime Television', brought her much-loved show to an end today (25th May 2011) after 25 years on the air. Oprah Winfrey opted for a low-key goodbye, thanking the audience for tuning in every day and promising they would "meet again" in the future, reports the Wall Street Journal.
Standing alone on the stage, Winfrey recalled the first episode of her show and spoke fondly of the many guests she had interviewed. Speaking of her regrets, she noted how she wished she'd dedicated more time to the issue of rape and child abuse. Later in the show, she gave a shout out to her fourth-grade teacher Mrs Duncan, who was in the live studio audience alongside her partner Stedman Graham and friend Gayle King. Before signing off for good, Oprah told the audience to note down her email address and promised to read whatever was sent, telling her fans that their thoughts 'matter'. After walking through her studio and stopping to hug numerous people, Winfrey eventually raised her arm and yelled "We did it" before walking off camera. During her 25 years on the air, Oprah has interviewed approximately 30,000 guests while never missing a single day of work.
Oprah Winfrey is now expected to work on her recently launched network 'Own', which features shows such as 'Why Not? With Shania Twain' and 'Dr Phil'.
