Oscar Is Golden For Abc
Expecting that this year's Oscar nominees will draw big audiences -- unlike previous years most of them were big box-office blockbusters -- advertisers have been willing to grab commercial time on the ABC telecast for $1.65 million to $1.8 million, the New York Times reported today (Thursday). The previous record was set five years ago when a single spot brought in $1.7 million. Hyundai, the sole automotive sponsor of the awards telecast, has bought seven of them, narrated by Oscar winner Jeff Bridges. One thing we like about the Academy Awards is that the vibe is different from other television shows, Steve Shannon, vice president for marketing at Hyundai Motor America, told the Times. There's more glamour and style and sophistication.
