Benedict Cumberbatch's new Tv war drama Parade's End was the toast of Britain's Broadcasting Press Guild Awards on Thursday (14Mar13) after scooping up four top prizes.

The Bbc miniseries, set during the First World War, was named Best Drama Series over Line of Duty, Last Tango in Halifax and Cumberbatch's other hit show Sherlock at the London prizegiving, while the Brit and his co-star Rebecca Hall claimed the Best Actor and Best Actress titles.

Sir Tom Stoppard was also handed the Writer's Award for adapting Ford Madox Ford's Parade's End novels for the small screen.

Meanwhile, Exposure: The Other Side of Jimmy Savile - the piece of investigative reporting which prompted the U.K. inquiry into allegations of child abuse by the late entertainer - was awarded Best Documentary.

Bbc executives were praised with the innovation award for their coverage of the London 2012 Olympics, while another show on the network, Twenty Twelve, was named Best Entertainment/Comedy for its humorous take on the Games.

Australian comedian Adam Hills landed the Breakthrough Award for The Last Leg and veteran newscaster John Humphrys was presented with the Harvey Lee Award for Outstanding Contribution to Broadcasting.

The Broadcasting Press Guild winners are voted for by British media journalists.
