Songwriter Paul Leka has died at the age of 68.
He passed away in Sharon, Connecticut on 12 October (11) after a long battle with lung cancer.
Leka is perhaps most famous for co-writing the popular American sports arena anthem Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye), which became a number one hit in 1969.
He was born Paul Theodore Leka in 1943 and began penning songs at an early age. He later opened his own recording studio in Bridgeport, Connecticut and went on to produce songs for Stevie Wonder, Gloria Gaynor, and Kris Kristofferson.
Additionally, he produced the tune Green Tambourine for rock band Lemon Pipers and four of Harry Chapin's albums, including Verities & Balderdash, which spawned the hit Cat's in the Cradle.
