Paul Mccartney Gives Up Cannabis For Daughter Beatrice

Paul Mccartney has announced that he will be giving up cannabis so he can focus his attentions on his eight year old daughter, Beatrice.

In an interview with the March edition of Rolling Stone magazine, the former Beatle reveals: 'I did a lot, and it was enough. I smoked my share. When you're bringing up a youngster, your sense of responsibility does kick in. Enough's enough - you just don't seem to think it's necessary.' He also admits to trying other drugs during his time in The Beatles: 'I tried heroin just the once. Even then, I didn't realize I'd taken it. I was just handed something, smoked it, then found out what it was. It didn't do anything for me, which was lucky because I wouldn't have fancied heading down that road. I did cocaine for about a year around the time of 'Sgt. Pepper' . Coke and maybe some grass to balance it out. I was never completely crazy with cocaine.'

MCCartney was introduced to cannabis by fellow rocker and friend Bob Dylan in the mid-sixties. It is said that many of The Beatles' famous songs were written under the influence of drugs - Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds being an example, which was banned by the BBC.

MCCartney's drug use has landed him in trouble in the past. In 1972, he was arrested in Scotland and Sweden for possession of cannabis and in 1980, he was deported from Japan after it emerged that he had half a pound of cannabis in his luggage.
